Grand Army of the Republic Hall and Museum curator Wendy Joseph helps Lynn Classical student Allyson De leon dig through Ancestry.com in search of the genealogy of a Lynn Civil War veteran. (Spenser Hasak)

Lynn Classical students are tracking down descendants of Civil War veterans from the North Shore. Working from a database of members of GAR Post #5 (now the Grand Army of the Republic Hall and Museum of Lynn), honor students in history have started a multi-year project under the supervision of history teacher David Poland and former Lynn Museum President Steve Rima. Read all about it in Anthony Cammalleri’s article that appeared on Itemlive.com on March 31, 2023.

And, by the way, you don’t have to be a student to visit the Hall! Come see pictures of the veterans in the Grand Hall, their weapons, their gear, and much more at the Grand Army of the Republic Hall and Museum, 58 Andrew St., Lynn, Mass. We’re open for tours Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
