A Night at the G.A.R.

The pleasure of your company is respectfully requested for an evening of Historical Remembrance, Civil War Lore, and the Victorian Past at the historic G.A.R in Lynn.

AN EVENING OF HISTORY & REMEMBRANCE

Guests are invited to step beyond the present hour and into the world of the post-Civil War era, within the historic walls of the General Lander Post 5 Grand Army of the Republic.

A special guided presentation shall explore the medical practices and treatment of the Civil War and G.A.R. period, followed by a tour of this distinguished historic post.

Prepare to hear tales of soldiers, surgeons, sacrifice, mourning, and remembrance — stories preserved within the history of this remarkable place.

LIMITED ATTENDANCE

The number of guests shall be limited for this special occasion. Those wishing to attend are respectfully encouraged to make their arrangements early, as the evening is expected to be filled to capacity.

ATTIRE

  • Victorian • Civil War • Military • Mourning • Medical • Gothic
  • Gentlemen and Ladies are most cordially encouraged to appear in the appropriate costume or attire of the period.
  • Those suitably attired shall be entered into an evening costume contest.
  • Black mourning dress, military uniform, Victorian finery, medical garb, or suitably Gothic attire are all most welcome.

THE EVENING SHALL INCLUDE

  • An exclusive tour of the G.A.R.
  • Collation and Refreshments
  • A gracious collation shall be served throughout the evening, accompanied by the house Victorian Cocktail, Champagne, and a selection of temperance refreshments and fruit beverages for the enjoyment of all guests.
  • The Honor of the Evening – A selected guest shall be honored in recognition of their exceptional attention to the character and elegance of their attire, as selected by their peers.

Strictly for those aged Twenty-One Years and Older

A valid identification is required.

ACCESSIBILITY

For the convenience of guests requiring accessible entry, an entrance is available at 56 Andrew Street. Elevator access provided — advance notice is requested.

Come properly attired, with an appreciation for history, and a willingness to linger awhile amongst the memories of those who came before.
